GEISAI TAIWAN#2に出展致しました。海外のGEISAI参加は、初めての経験でした。大変幸運なことに村上隆賞を受賞させて頂きました。素晴らしい賞が頂けて、本当に嬉しく思います。
I exhibited at GEISAI TAIWAN#2. It was my first experience participating in GEISAI overseas. I was very fortunate to receive the Takashi Murakami Award. I am really happy to have received this wonderful award.
今回の展示のテーマは「奇景」です。
The theme of the exhibition is “Strange scenery”
「奇景」
日常や旅の途中で、ふと見過ごすことの出来ない様な光景に出くわすことがある。「奇景」。奇異でありながら美しくもある、それらの景色。では、一体何故奇異なのだろうか？それらは、いつも強く何かを連想させる。そこから、発せられるなんらかのメッセージがあるからなのだと思う。それらの光景を捉えようとする時、私は無意識的な判断基準である科学や、その他の価値基準を一旦取り払い、五感やそれ以外の感覚を極限まで研ぎすますことで、対象に迫る。只ひたすら描くことに寄って、脳内に起こる化学反応を待つ。直感だけでなく、考え、想像し、妄想する。科学では語られない、存在意義、理由。語りかけて来るものを見る。そこにある物語。
“Strange scenery”
In your daily life or while traveling, you may come across a scene that you cannot ignore. “Strange scenery.” These scenery are both strange and beautiful. So why is it so strange? They always strongly remind me of something. I think it’s because there’s some sort of message being sent out from there. When I try to capture these scenes, I remove science and other values that serve as unconscious criteria for judgment, and sharpen my five senses and other senses to the utmost in order to approach the subject. I just concentrate on drawing and wait for the chemical reaction to occur in my brain. Not just intuition, but thinking, imagining, and fantasizing. The meaning and reason for existence that cannot be explained in science. See what speaks to you. There’s a story there.

確かに多くの人々が、そこを日常の場として生活している。だが、それ以外の大多数の人々・動植物、あるいは地球外の「存在」から見れば、そこは極めて奇異な光景に違いないだろう。そこにある、愛してやまない夢。浮遊感。傾きつつある永遠の平和の幻想。
It is true that many people live there on a daily basis. However, from the perspective of the majority of other people, animals and plants, or extraterrestrial “beings,” it must be an extremely strange sight. There is a dream that I can’t help but love. Floating feeling. The illusion of eternal peace is on the decline.
ガジュマル “gajyumaru tree” / 500×606mm (F12) / oil on canvas / 2010
肉体の様でいて、骨の様でもある。猛り狂う生命と、その結果としての死。横暴な、残虐すぎる生命という存在。
It looks like flesh, but it also looks like bones. Life running wild and death as a result. A tyrannical, cruel existence called life.
海月と妖精 “jellyfish ＆ fairy” / 410×318mm (F6) / oil on canvas / 2010
海月の美しさに触発されて描いた。そこに見た、神秘的な光景。動植物を多く題材とする装飾的なアールヌーボーをイメージした表現と、現代日本のアニメや漫画などのサブカルチャーの中で重要視される｢萌」などの甘い幻想を、自分なりに融合させて表現してみた。西洋の美術運動であるアールヌーボーには、当時、ジャポニスムが影響を与えていたと言う。遥かな時間と空間を超えて出会った、２つの日本の文化を描こうとした。
I drew this drawing inspired by the beauty of jellyfish. A mysterious sight I saw there. I tried to express my own fusion of decorative Art Nouveau-inspired expressions that feature many animals and plants as themes, and the sweet fantasy of “Moe,” which is important in contemporary Japanese subcultures such as anime and manga. Art Nouveau, a Western art movement, was said to have been influenced by Japonism at the time. I tried to depict two Japanese cultures that met across vast distances of time and space.
